According to the invaluable resource of all things Robert Pollard, GBVDB – Guided By Voices Database, “Asphyxiated Circle” from 2004’s Half Smiles Of The Decomposed was only ever played lived by the band a total of 13 times. This, in my opinion, is not nearly enough stage time for this monster hit. I mean, I get why it only stayed in the live set back in 2004; after all, it was The Electrifying Conclusion tour, and songs from the band’s entire career were popping in to make one last appearance before Guided By Voices dissolved for good (or so we were led to believe). Still, I’m mystified that none of the wonderful tunes from this album have ever reappeared in the live set since that time.
