Hue An’ Dye

Todd Tobias, composer of most of the music to which Robert Pollard added vocals in the Circus Devils side project, seems fond of alternate guitar tunings. In “Hue An’ Dye,” the most obvious change was to tune the low E string down a full step to D. In tinkering with the song’s main guitar, I discovered that the third string also had to be tuned down, from G to F#. I wanted to confirm this, so I asked Tobias and he said it looked correct to the best of his memory. He also recalled that he sometimes used guitars that had the two highest strings removed and that this song may have been recorded in that way. So you’ll need to retune two strings for “Hue An’ Dye,” using the tuning below.

Tuning (low to high): D – A – D – F# – B – E
