How Do You Spell Heaven

“Nothing Gets You Real” features a common Robert Pollard guitar technique that I refer to as “Floating Chord Shapes,” where an open position chord shape is moved up the neck to a different fret. In the case of this song, the open position chords that are “floated” are D and Fmaj7/C. We’ll use the D chord shape to voice the Dm7 chord (with the fourth string remaining open) and the Fmaj7/C chord shape will be used to voice a Badd11/F# chord and a G6/D chord, both of which keep the open first string.
